National University of Lesotho Student Residences

Roma, Lesotho

Set against a dramatic mountain backdrop, the first phase of the student residence complex houses 256 students and will grow to over 1000 students as enrolment increases. The series of linked buildings is adjacent to the main campus in Roma. Rendered blockwork is coloured to blend with the surrounding sandstone hills. An axial walkway leads towards the church which is a striking feature of the NUL campus. In terms of green building measures, all student rooms face the northern sun, to maximise passive heating, grey water is cleaned and reused for flushing and concrete masonry was manufactured on site, during construction.

Completion 2007.
