Baylor College of Medicine Paediatric Centre of Excellence

Kampala, Uganda

The Centre is within the Mulago Hospital campus in Kampala, Uganda.  Unlike the other Centres, it is planned around a courtyard, with a double volume veranda as the waiting area. The pallet of details which characterise the various Centres, including the welcoming veranda, are used with minor regionally specific modifications. The courtyard in conjunction with a comprehensive system of adjustable timber louvres to both windows and internal doors, ensure that the building is substantially naturally ventilated and cooled.

The Centre was undertaken with GMB, Maryland, as project Managers and Lawrence Rugumabaju, Architect, in Kampala.
